The Wichita Business Journal
A wish came true Tuesday for Wichita businessman Troy Palmer, president at R.E. Black Building Management and Simon Palmer Properties.
When Palmer was selected as a winner this year for the Wichita Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Awards, he said on a WBJ questionnaire that the person he’d most like to have lunch with would be either Wichita businessman Jack DeBoer or Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
He got a surprise opportunity to dine with one of those two picks — DeBoer — today at the Wichita Country Club.
DeBoer has been a developer for many apartment and hotel projects. Among other things, he’s the founder and chairman of the Value Place extended-stay hotel chain, and he’s leading downtown Wichita’s WaterWalk development.
He also recently published a book, “Risk Only Money: Success in Business Without Risking Family, Friends and Reputation.”
Tuesday’s meal was arranged by Greteman Group, which represents DeBoer.
Palmer was visibly surprised when he entered the country club lobby and realized DeBoer was his mystery lunch date. The two had never met before, though Palmer said they came close. He saw DeBoer at an event but didn’t have a chance to say hi.
DeBoer said before Palmer arrived for lunch that the two would talk about “whatever he wants to talk about.”
We’ll follow up with Palmer after the lunch.
